Eduardo Iglesias Gutiérrez

Our group is multidisciplinary, composed by professionals with different backgrounds: Biology, Biochemistry, Medicine, Biotechnology, and Sport Sciences. We have been collaborating for the last 6 years, mainly working on the physiological and molecular response to exercise and on the nutritional and body composition assessment in athletes, with a huge docent, research, applied and clinic experience in those fields.

Expertise

Biological response to exercise, implications for exercise prescription:

  • Circulating microRNA profile in response to acute exercise and training:
    • emerging biomarkers and potential exercise mimetics in humans
    • animal exercise models (NGS, qPCR, endurance and resistance exercise training in animals, animal care, surgical skills).
  • Validation of tissue and gene targets of circulating microRNA in response to exercise (cell cultures, qPCR, WB).
  • Differential effect of endurance and resistance training on adult neurogenesis in exercise animal models:
    • role of autophagy (immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, WB, qPCR, endurance and resistance exercise training in animals, animal care, surgical skills).
  • Differential effect of endurance and resistance training on adult proliferation of cardiac progenitor cells in exercise animal models:
    • role of autophagy (immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, WB, qPCR, endurance and resistance exercise training in animals, animal care, surgical skills).
  • Kinetics of homocysteine in response to acute exercise in sedentary people, and its relationship with oxidative damage and stress, inflammatory response, and endothelial function (ELISA).
  • Development and validation of an in vitro model of exercise for human endothelial cells (cell cultures, qPCR, WB).

Nutritional status assessment and nutritional interventions in humans and animal models:

  • Design and implementation of nutrition education intervention programs in elite athletes: short- and long-term quantitative and qualitative effect (dietary records, body composition analysis, in depth interviews).
  • Role of microRNA in the response to dietetic interventions in animal models (qPCR, WB, animal care, surgical skills).

Interested in collaborating on

Together with our expertise in microRNA biology in response to exercise, we would like to gain insight in the role of lncRNA in this same topic, both in humans and animal models.
